We’re a social enterprise that takes the unemployed youth in South African townships, trains them to become professional baristas, helps place them at a network of different coffee shops & businesses and facilitates the journey for those showing entrepreneurial spirit into owning and running their own modular coffee businesses.
Our barista course gives our students access to both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for making and serving specialty coffee.
Through our own "Woza Wagons" and a network of coffee shops and brands we have relationship with, we help our coffee school graduates get job shadowing experience, which often leads to full-time employment.
Baristas who show entrepreneurial spirit and have completed the course will be mentored and trained into running their own Woza Wagons.
Our Coffee Course
The Woza Coffee School gives these students access to the life skills, theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for making and serving specialty coffee.
Through a partnership with The Sozo Foundation, our students benefit from a 1-Month long life skills course, which they have to complete and pass before starting the coffee course.
The theoretical part of our coffee course is sponsored to us by Lobster Ink (an international hospitality training platform) and is based online with video tutorials and multiple-choice tests. To pass this section our students have to achieve 80% or more in all their tests.
Our facilitators assist them through this journey as they also get hands on experience for the practical component as they are guided behind the machines, grinders and coffee brewing devices.
Once our students have finished and passed both the practical and theory parts of the course, we set them up with job/work shadow experiences at coffee shops and on our modular coffee stations.
